Roots & Branches: Appalachian Craft Heritage
A celebration of traditional mountain crafts and the artisans keeping them alive
December 12, 2025 - March 19, 2026
This exhibition explores the deep roots of Appalachian craft traditions and the new branches growing from that heritage. From white oak basket weaving to contemporary interpretations of traditional quilting patterns, discover how mountain craftwork continues to evolve while honoring its origins.
Curator's Notes
When I began curating this exhibition, I was struck by how many of our artisans learned their craft from a grandmother or grandfather. These aren't just techniques - they're connections across generations, ways of remembering and honoring those who came before. Every basket, every quilt, every carved spoon carries that legacy forward.
The Keepers
Master artisans who have spent decades perfecting traditional techniques
These are the keepers of knowledge - artisans who remember when every home had a loom, when baskets were necessities not luxuries.
