The Southeastern Kentucky Permaculture Guild Database is a resource for farmers, gardeners, and homesteaders in our region who want to implement permaculture principles in their growing practices.

This database contains information about plant guilds that have been tested and proven in our local conditions. Each guild is designed to maximize productivity while minimizing maintenance through mutually beneficial relationships between plants.

Our recipe-based search feature helps you plan your garden around the foods you love to eat, making harvesting ingredients for your favorite dishes quick and efficient.

How to Use This Database

Searching by Plant

  1. From the search form, select "Specific Plant or Plant Type"
  2. Enter a plant name you want to grow (e.g., "Rattlesnake Bean")
  3. Optionally, select a plant type from the dropdown
  4. Click "Find Guilds" to see guilds that include your plant
  5. Explore the results to find compatible companion plants

Searching by Recipe

  1. From the search form, select "Recipe Ingredients"
  2. Enter a recipe name (e.g., "Salsa" or "Three Sisters Stew")
  3. Click "Find Guilds" to see recommended planting combinations
  4. Results will show guilds containing plants used in the recipe
  5. Higher match percentages indicate guilds with more of the recipe's ingredients

Using Homestead Planner

  1. Subscribe to our premium service to unlock all features
  2. Create a new homestead with your property location
  3. Draw zones on the map (0-5) for different use intensities
  4. Add elements like guilds, structures, and water features
  5. Save and update your plan as your homestead evolves
